SCHOLAR: NEUROLINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING

A dream can be defined as a “series of thoughts, images and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep,” (CoPilot 2025).  Dreams serve as a bridge between the subconscious and the conscious mind where the subconscious thinks about matters as if it were “a canvas upon which …  innermost thoughts, fears, desires, and memories” exist.  The subconscious mind is composed of unorganized thoughts and a reflection of a person’s true identity.  The subconscious mind does not “differentiate between “positive” and “negative” (The Enlightenment Journey 2024) which means that, thoughts that a person think are not judged via perception (ego) and what is perceived to be “negative” is human nature or a person’s tendency to lean onto the negative part of a thought.  This means that thoughts inserted into the persons mind must be phrased strategically to take advantage of that fact. The dream occurs during a persons sleep cycle.  Dreams are a subconscious product which likely serve as a basis for conscious actions.  The sleep cycle consists of several cycles of non rapid eye movement and rapid eye movement.  The brainwaves change from beta waves (the waking state) progressing to alpha waves (trans state) to theta waves (light sleep) than to delta waves (sleep state).  The objective of hypnosis and neurolinguistic programming is to make conscious and subconscious changes to the way a person thinks about themselves and their surroundings during the trans state and the light sleep state of being.   This is achieved by bringing the person to a relaxed state using baroque music or pink or white noise mixed with a soft-spoken voice.   Effective neurolinguistic programming occurs in the later stages of NREM and or REM.  Baroque music is a type of music that came from the west 1600 – 1750 as orchestra, opera and or the concerto (Music Theory Academy 2025).  Pink noise is ambient noise (Web MD 2025).  Ambient noise is background noise that masks other noises with consistent pitches and lower waves.  White noise is broadband noise.  Broadband noise is random noise that consist of either high or low frequencies that do not have a periodicity (such as a waterfall).  When composing a song of neurolinguistic programming the above must be considered.  Dowsing can be done in person and its purpose is to “bring together the rational and intuitive sides (the left and right sides) of the brain” to help in make effective changes to the persons behavior.  For this a pendulum is used.  With that said, its important to commence by brining the person into a trans state where the alpha waves cause the person to be relaxed.  The mixture of selected noise and the voice creates this environment for the person.  When performing neurolinguistic programming on a person there is the Dowser and the client where both’s objective is to create psychological changes to the clients behavior patterns.  Thoughts are first intentions, which result in action/s followed by practice resulting in consistency and forming a habit to become the person.  The Dowser uses a pendulum to lateralize the brain function.  The theory of the lateralization of the brain says that “the two hemispheres of the brain have specialized functions, with the left hemisphere is typically associated with language and logic, while the right hemisphere is linked to creativity and spatial awareness” (CoPilot 2025).  The use of the pendulum balances both hemispheres of the brain.  A metronome can be used in place of a pendulum.  The relaxed state occurs by counting down from ten where the Dowser uses physiological and psychological feelings to slowly get the body to relax.  For example, “10 you feel tingling at the tips of your limbs, it is as if your in a soft white cloud.  9 the tingling feeling in your limbs moves up towards your torso pushing you down onto the soft fluffy clouds.”  Before the numbers hit 1, the eyes close and the person is in trans state.  In the trans state, the Dowser creates a world for the client using unorganized thoughts, fears, desires, and memories.  These suggestions act to create psychological changes to the persons behaviour.  Such suggestions include, “you are a goal oriented and focused person” or “you achieve that which you attempt.”  These thoughts create conscious ideas about the self that are unhinged when suggested during the later stages of relaxation.   Another strategy for inducing the trans state is using binaural beats.  A binaural beat is an illusion created by your brain when you listen to two tones with slightly different frequencies at the same time, one in each ear. Some early research suggests that listening to binaural beats can change your brainwaves” (Web MD 2025).  These beats help relax the person and ease them into the trans state.  Along with verbal suggestions binaural beats become a force for subconscious programming.  With that said before the neurolinguistic programming occurs the Dowser must conduct an Informational Interview with the client to determine what the goals and objectives of treatment are going to be.  In this Informational Interview, the Dowser is to focus on meaningful aspects or sentiment focused scenarios.  These scenarios provide a sense of realism to the contents of the neurolinguistic programming session.  Meaningful scenarios or items can be used to create a world of trans for the client.  An example is the preceding:  “Your sitting in your room, in an upright position with feet flat on the ground.  You recall, the feeling of the sheets that are wrapped around you.  It is soft and silky.  It glides through the surface of your skin and you feel a cold breeze of air as it slides.  The sheets are a bright red color and it reflects a gradient of light towards you.  It’s your security blanket from when you were a young child.”  These sentimental items are important to include in the neurolinguistic programming because it reorientates the person to a time where he or she experiences real emotions.  The more truthful the neurolinguistic programming the more believable it becomes henceforth, authenticity and realism are important concepts to understand when constructing neurolinguistic programming.  After bringing the person into trans state, the Dowser inserts suggestions into the person’s psyche.  These suggestions must be attainable and they must be achievable, again being real and authentic is very important.  When the suggestions are interested into the psyche it becomes time to bring the person up from trans state to waking state.  This occurs via a count of ten.  The formation of this set of programming comes from reversing the previous count of ten.  For example, 2.  You feel the tingling on your torso move to your limbs and then to your fingers and feet.  The tingling sensation is like ants crawling up and down your limbs.  1.  The tingling reaches your head commencing on both outer sides where your ears are situated.  The tingling travels to your eyes forcing it open.”  With that said, the next step is to bring the person out of trans state to waking state.  This is done via a sudden interruption or shock such as a loud clap.  This interruption means that the programming has ended and that the person is reoriented to the current waking state.  The purpose of the sudden interruption is to cause changes to the grey matter of the brain where the person can recall the programming just as he or she would be able to recall tasks in his or her life.  With that said, neurolinguistic programming is a tedious task and a lot of planning and data collection is necessary in order to create a recording.
